How To Create Space Themed Room Decor

By LUMOSX

Decorating a new room is always a fun experience for children. They get to choose their theme, look for furniture, colours and decorations that match their ideas accordingly, and then spend time applying them to their room the exact way that they want. Is your child fascinated by space? Are they an aspiring astronaut or astronomer? Do they like the stars, planets and moons so much that they want to see a representation of the great cosmos across their room every day and night? Well look no further, because you’ve come to the right place for advice! Here at LUMOSX, we are dedicated to bringing light to children across the world with products that comfort and inspire their imaginations. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to make your child’s room decor reflect their love for space, with suggestions for the decorations you should use!

Step 1: Sky!

To begin any activity, one must always start with a good foundation. For the colour of the walls and ceiling, we’d recommend a dark blue over black. While it’s true that black is more realistic in recreating the vastness of space, it can also make the room look darker than you intend. Besides, wouldn’t you say that the sky also looks like more of a deep blue when the stars and constellations are so bright? However, if black walls are what your child wants, don’t let us stop you! Go ahead and pick the dark wall paint that works best for their preferences, and if paint isn’t a viable option for those who are renting, removable stick-on wallpaper would work just as well.

Step 2: Stars!

This is quite obvious, but glow-in-the-dark stars are an absolute must in this space-themed endeavour. Stars are one of the most common things to study in celestial bodies, and you can decorate easily with a pack of glow-in-the-dark stars. For extra realism, try sticking on the stars in formations of real constellations, or arrange them to follow the swirls of the Milky Way! Our glow-in-the-dark stars also come with a glow-in-the-dark moon, and an ultimate guide to constellations in the form of a bonus e-book with your purchase—you’ll be able to consult and follow the guide to create those constellations as you apply the glow-in-the-dark stars! And here’s an extra tip: set up a blacklight for an extra glow, not just for the glow-in-the-dark stars but also the room’s atmosphere in general.

Step 3: Planets!

Besides stars, the planets in our known galaxy are also a great source of interest for many children and adults alike. Instead of painting those planets, we’d recommend getting a pack of wall decals and applying them to your child’s room however you like. The planets can be as big or as small as you like; if you find that some decals are too big for you to try sticking them all on in the same room, maybe your child has a favourite planet that they’ll want to highlight more than the others. Good news for renters: there are wall decals out there that can be removable fixtures, and won’t risk causing any irreversible damage to a possibly temporary space.

Step 4: Everything Else!

Here’s the part where you would think about more necessary things in a child’s bedroom: furniture that fits the room’s overall theme. We recommend getting furniture that’s darker in colour—perhaps your child will appreciate navy blue bedsheets and blankets, black curtains or window shades, or a darker brown desk and bookshelves to work with. And while it’s needed to have a normal ceiling light so that your child doesn’t always have to strain their eyes in the darkness at night, you can always get a soft nightlight or blacklight to add to the room’s theme for when your child is ready for bed.

And that was our simple step-by-step guide to creating space-themed decor for your child’s room! While there can be several variations and ideas out there on how to achieve the effect you want, we hope that this article helped you or your child somewhat figure out what they want when they think about having a room that reflects their love for space.
